Frances George Piano

Sound Foundations for your Musical Future

An early ambition was to play boogie-woogie and blues piano, as well as the pop songs I heard on the radio - something I still love to do.

My teenage years were spent listening to 70's pop - everything from blues and heavy metal and prog rock to soul and funk. Favourite artists and bands included Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, the Stones, Queen and Genesis. 80's interests included Japan, Echo and the Bunnymen and Talking Heads. The 90's saw me getting into drum'n'bass and trance(Transglobal Underground, Dreadzone) and more raucous stuff like The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers.

I also listen to opera, lieder and songs from the shows and any kind of "classical" music from plainsong to contemporary. And of course, music for piano! Favourite pianists include Keith Jarrett and Marta Argerich.

Favourite composers for keyboard and piano include Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, and Bartok.

As a young child I loved to listen to and play folk music and taught myself favourites such as "Greensleeves" and "Waltzing Matilda" by ear on recorder and harmonica. This inspired a lifelong love of world music visits to the WOMAD festival.

I followed this up with a dissertation on Aboriginal Australian music during my degree studies in Social Anthropology at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
